The Marcsmen would like to thank all of our family, friends and fans who helped to make our Marcsmen Christmas Shows a success. We put on two shows on Saturday, December 19th, and had a fantastic time sharing the Christmas spirit.
We’re busy making plans for 2016, with an all-new Mother’s Day show and another big Christmas show. We hope to see you all at both shows!
We thought this was fun, and had to share.
Fellow BHS chorus (and 2015 International competitor), the Westminster Chorus, recently put out a fun video on YouTube, after someone commented to them that their choreography looked like dancing hair. The 44-second video received quite a few views, and gained the attention of a shampoo company in Japan, who worked with the chorus to make a 30-second commercial that is showing on Japanese TV.
Even more fun, they’ve posted another clip of the raw footage of the chorus, as well as what appears to be some instruction from the director or one of the actors (sorry, my Japanese is a bit rusty) on how to perform the choreography.
Here’s your chance to help The Marcsmen.
We’re approaching 1000 Likes on our Facebook page. If you haven’t liked our page already, visit https://www.facebook.com/themarcsmen and click the “Like” button near the bottom of the main photo. We’re striving to have the most popular Facebook page in the Barbershop Harmony Society, so spread the word and help us get there!
It is with considerable disappointment that The Marcsmen are announcing that we have had to cancel our 2015 Mother’s Day Show. However, we are planning to return with the show in 2016.
Check our website and this blog regularly for announcements on where you can see and hear The Marcsmen later this year.
On Saturday, The Marcsmen celebrated with other area choruses and presented our 2014 year end awards. The following members won the chorus awards this year:
- Most Improved Barbershopper: Randy Hagan
- Co-Barbershoppers of the Year: Jan Scofield and Scott Baylor
- Director’s Award: Wallace Stanley
- President’s Award: Jan Scofield
Congratulations to the winners!
The Marcsmen would like to extend a huge Thank You to all of our fans, our friends and our families for a wonderful 2014! It was a year like none other in the history of our chorus, with two great shows plus a very educational trip to Harmony University for our members.
The good news is that 2015 promises to be an even better year. We’re hard at work getting music ready for our spring show and for our contest appearance at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Convention in Pittsburgh in July. Watch the Events page to learn more about where you’ll be able to see and hear San Antonio’s premier men’s a cappella group in the coming months.
If you’re interested in singing in The Marcsmen Community Christmas shows on December 13th, we welcome you to join us tonight at The Radius Center at 7:00 PM for a rehearsal where we’ll be going over the music for the community portion of the show. Both men and women are encouraged to join us, as we’ll be doing both some mixed and all-male voice pieces.
For more information on where we rehearse, visit the Sing with The Marcsmen page, or call 800-689-8125 if you have specific questions.
On Saturday, December 13th, The Marcsmen will hold a community chorus show that will include not only a cappella performances by The Marcsmen and local quartets, but also music by men’s and mixed community choruses. If you would like to sing in these two community choruses as part of the show, send us a note for rehearsal details from the Contact Us page. We look forward to singing with you!
The Marcsmen will be helping St. Andrews Episcopal Church celebrate their 50th anniversary on Saturday, November 15th. St. Andrews Episcopal Church is located on NW Loop 410 in San Antonio near Ingram Park Mall. See our Events page for more details on the show!
After we posted a solid 2nd-place finish at the 2014 Southwestern District contest in early October, we had to wait and see if our score was high enough to qualify for a Wild Card entry to the 2015 International competition in Pittsburgh, in July 2015. Fortunately, that invitation came this week, and we are now preparing for our third trip in five years to International!
We finished 13th in our last appearance in the 2013 International in Toronto, and we’re going to be hard at work preparing our set for this year’s contest.
