The Marcsmen are San Antonio’s premier men’s a cappella group, and members of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The group was formed by a number of Texas State University music students, and won the inaugural Barbershop Harmony Society Youth Chorus Contest in 2008. Since becoming a full-fledged chapter of the BHS, we were the 2012 Southwestern District champions, are the current Southwestern District runners-up and represented the district in the 2015 International Competition in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, finishing 20th overall.
We also competed at International in 2011 and 2013, and in the latter, we placed 13th overall in the world, the highest International finish in Barbershop Harmony Society history for a group of less than 29 men on stage.
2014 SW District Chorus Contest
Our rehearsals are every Thursday evening from 7:00-10:00 PM in downtown San Antonio at a venue located across the street from the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Our music team, led by Director Brent Dunavant and Associate Director Wallace Stanley, work with the group every week to deliver a unique musical style, which we refer to as The Marcsmen Sound. We put that sound on stage many times throughout the year in concerts, singing for civic and charitable organizations, private groups, churches, community events, and fundraisers.
We love to entertain by putting on our own musical events each year for the community, our friends, and families. We send “singing telegrams” on Valentines Day and special occasions, and in an effort to stay committed to singing and performing at the highest level possible, we compete each year in the pre-eminent men’s barbershop competition in the world.
Please send us a note from the Contact Us page to learn how we can sing at your next special event!
